The GiveGreen Top Ten exists to answer one question: If you care about supporting Climate Champions in competitive races, what are the most important campaigns to support right now?

Each month leading up to the 2026 midterms, GiveGreen’s team of political experts will determine our top priority campaigns for you to support across federal, state, and local races. This is the Top Ten state and local races. If you are interested in Federal Races, please see our Top 10 Federal List. Some races will appear on multiple lists over the course of the cycle, and some will be new. There are two primary criteria for inclusion on this list:

The candidate must have a strong history of standing up for action to fight climate change.

Electing pro-climate, pro-democracy candidates at the state level is critically important to advancing climate action. The Trump Administration and the anti-environment majority in Congress have continuously made dangerous attacks on our communities, democracy, and planet. Winning the races highlighted below will be critical to ensuring we have as many climate champions in office to stand up to the Trump Administration’s continuous attacks.
