WHY THIS RACE MATTERS

  • Returning this seat to pro-environment leadership will help win a pro-environmental majority in the Michigan State House, making it easier to pass climate legislation at the state level

CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Jaime Churches is running to represent the 27th District in the Michigan State House. She formerly represented District 27 and served for one term. Prior to serving in the Legislature, she was a teacher for over 10 years before deciding to run for office. During her 2022 campaign, she won her election by 660 votes. This was the closest race in the entire state of Michigan and gave us the first Democratic Trifecta in 4 decades. In her first year in office, she helped secure millions for her district for infrastructure repairs, reinstated workers rights across the state, tripled the working families tax credit, and repealed the pension tax on seniors.

During her time in Lansing, she achieved many legislative environmental priorities for Downriver and for the state of Michigan. She helped pass the Clean Energy & Jobs Act mandating that Michigan transition to 100% clean energy by 2040. If elected, she will continue to fight for environmental protection by supporting legislation to address PFAS in our drinking water, and she will proudly support polluter pay legislation.
