Shenna Bellows

Shenna Bellows  is one of two climate champions running in the Democratic primary for the toss up Governor seat in Maine.

ON THE ISSUES

  • Will work to transition to a clean energy economy
  • Committed to bold climate action

WHY THIS RACE MATTERS

  • Climate champion Hannah Pingree also running in the Democratic primary
  • Critical Governor race - defending this open Governor seat will help continue Maine’s leadership as a national climate leader at the state level

CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Shenna Bellows grew up in Hancock, Maine, as the daughter of a carpenter and a greenhouse worker who knew what it was like to struggle to make ends meet. They didn’t have electricity or running water until she was in the fifth grade, but her parents never let their family feel poor. Instead they taught Shenna to value hard work and honesty, to do the right thing—even when it was hard—and to always look out for others. The Maine way.

Shenna currently serves as Maine’s 50th, and first female Secretary of State. She’s worked to modernize our government with programs like online appointments at the BMV and automatic voter registration. Now, she's running for governor because we are in a perilous moment – for the climate, our democracy and our economic future – and we need experienced, tested leadership who will stand up and fight back against the Trump Administration while at the same time building sustainable, bipartisan coalitions to move Maine forward. She'll invest in the clean energy transition and support Maine's climate resilience.
