CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Hannah Pingree is running for Governor of Maine. Hannah Pingree has been a transformative leader in Maine’s fight against climate change and has been an environmental champion since she was a young state legislator. 

As co-chair of the Maine Climate Council, she spearheaded Maine Won’t Wait, a comprehensive plan to take climate action in Maine—installing over 100,000 heat pumps years ahead of schedule and weatherizing homes to reduce emissions and  reliance on heating oil; while growing homegrown energy sources and businesses, growing Maine’s clean energy workforce. She led historic investments in community resilience, including unprecedented storm recovery funding and programs to strengthen homes, working waterfronts and infrastructure to prepare for extreme weather events.

As a state legislator and Speaker of the House, she led on environmental health, waging a major successful fight, beating the chemical companies to take toxic chemicals out of children’s products. She also was a leading champion of the Land for Maine’s Future program, as well as working waterfront protections, and early efforts to advance energy efficiency programs in the state. 

Hannah Pingree will be a bold climate Governor, ensuring the state continues to make real progress in the fight against climate change, and she’ll accelerate the work to prepare our communities and economy for the storms of the future. She will stand up to the Trump Administration and his allies who put special interests over the health of Maine people and a liveable planet for our kids.
