Candidate Background

Representative Joe Neguse is running for a fourth term to represent Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District. Neguse has led a life of public service, starting when he co-founded New Era Colorado, a youth non-profit, which works on climate and clean energy issues. Later, he became the second African-American elected to the Colorado University Board of Regents, which oversees the $3.4 billion CU system. In 2014, Governor Hickenlooper appointed Neguse to lead the state’s consumer protection agency, a state Cabinet-level position. While running the agency, Neguse oversaw the recovery of millions of dollars for consumers, championed legislation to combat financial fraud against seniors, and launched the state’s first online filing system for civil rights discrimination complaints. In Congress, Neguse will prioritize action on climate and public lands. Representative Neguse has earned an impressive lifetime score of 99% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Representative Neguse is endorsed by LCV Action Fund and NRDC Action Fund.
