CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Joe Kerr is running to represent California’s 40th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is a retired 34-year firefighter captain and longtime California labor leader. As a former firefighter Joe will bring much needed experience to Congress to tackle wildfires and the devastation it can bring to our communities. One 100,000-acre wildfire produces as much greenhouse gas emissions as 7 million cars running simultaneously and continuously for a year. His approach to climate action and reducing our carbon footprint will be unlike any other, as he firmly believes we can't solve climate change without solving wildfires and climatic extremes first. Joe also served as Vice Chair of the Regional Water Quality Control Board, where he was one of the first in the country to fine serial polluters. He is committed to holding polluters accountable once elected to Congress.
