CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Representative Deborah Ross is running for a third term to represent North Carolina's 2nd Congressional District. A former state representative, Ross was a consistent environmental champion during her ten years in the General Assembly. She voted repeatedly to increase clean energy, address climate change, and protect North Carolina’s land, air and water. In her final term, she opposed legislation to roll back years of energy conservation work and supported a bill preventing manufacturers from deceiving customers about the biodegradability of their products. Her efforts earned her a 94% lifetime score on North Carolina LCV’s Legislative Scorecard. As an attorney in private practice, she has worked with renewable energy companies to get certified by the Utilities Commission, helping to negotiate purchase agreements. As General Counsel at Triangle Transit, she worked hard to bring light rail and commuter rail to the region. Representative Deborah Ross will continue this leadership by working to increase investments in clean energy and diverse transportation, and address the impacts of climate change.
She is dedicated to protecting North Carolina’s clean air, water and land from the mountains to the coast, including from the threat of offshore drilling. While in Congress, she cosponsored several critical pieces of legislation including the Defend Our Coast Act to protect the coasts of North Carolina from being leased for exploration, development, and production of oil or gas and the Arctic Refuge Protection Act to permanently protect the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas drilling. Representative Ross received an impressive 99% lifetime score on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard.
