CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Andy Kim is running to represent New Jersey in the U.S. Senate. He is currently serving New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives where he has been a longtime environmental champion and is a leader on climate action, earning a 99% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Representative Kim helped pass the biggest investment in climate action and environmental justice ever, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and has championed the benefits this landmark legislation is providing for communities, investments in agriculture, coastal restoration, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and transportation that will benefit hardworking New Jersey families.

Prior to serving in Congress, Andy Kim worked for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Africa Bureau at USAID, as a strategic adviser for General David Petraeus in Afghanistan, and as the Director for Iraq in President Obama’s National Security Council. Kim understands that climate change is a national security crisis and he will push for legislative action. In the Senate, he will continue to fight for investing in renewable energy, stopping offshore oil drilling, and for better storm resilience. Kim is endorsed by LCV Action Fund.
