Candidate Background

Representative Ro Khanna is running for a fifth term to represent California’s 17th Congressional District. Khanna previously served in the Department of Commerce under President Barack Obama where he led the Green Embassy Program to make our foreign offices more energy efficient as well as clean energy trade missions. He has practiced and taught law, as well as serving as the vice president of an energy efficiency company in California. In Congress, Khanna is committed to combating the climate crisis, developing clean energy, and encouraging energy efficiency. He is a strong advocate for protecting the environment, reducing carbon pollution and conserving our land, water, air and wildlife. Khanna was the first to Chair historic hearings with Big Oil under oath, where they demanded accountability for climate misinformation by Big Oil over the last 4 decades. He has been vocal in pushing the Biden Administration to put an end to pipeline permitting that would harm indigenous and rural communities, and introduced a Green New Deal for Healthcare that ensures clean communities for all. Representative Khanna has earned a 98% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
