Candidate Background

Representative Paul Tonko is running for a ninth term to represent New York’s 20th Congressional District. Tonko previously served in the state Assembly and as CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. As co-chair of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, a member of the Safe Climate Caucus, and as the ranking Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment and Economy, Tonko has been a leading voice for action on climate change. He has sponsored multiple pieces of legislation to invest in clean energy, energy efficiency, and weatherization. In Congress, Tonko will continue to be a forceful advocate for clean energy development and energy efficiency. Representative Tonko has earned a 98% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Representative Tonko is endorsed by LCV Action Fund.
