CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Jonathan Nez is running to represent Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a former president, vice president and council member of the Navajo Nation, Jonathan Nez has been a strong advocate for addressing the climate crisis and Arizona’s water crisis. During his administration, the Navajo Nation adopted a Climate Adaptation Plan and Nez testified in front of the U.S. House Energy & Commerce Committee on the climate impacts on the Navajo Nation as well as the New Mexico House of Representatives during their 2021 New Mexico Climate Summit. He fought to expand access to clean water in the Navajo Nation and protect Tribal water rights, vetoed helium extraction legislation, supported stronger regulations on methane emissions, and he is running for Congress to prioritize action on climate and protecting and expanding access to clean water.
