CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Jan Schakowsky is running for a 14th term to represent Illinois’s 9th Congressional District. Schakowsky previously served in the state Assembly. She has used her position on the Committee on Energy and Commerce to call for action on climate change, including sending a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry asking him to reject the Keystone pipeline. She was a sponsor of the American Clean Energy and Energy Security Act of 2009, which would have created a cap-and-trade system for carbon pollution. In Congress, Schakowsky will continue to fight to protect the Great Lakes and clean water, protect our treasured public lands and wildlife, and to fight for clean air. Representative Schakowsky has earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
