WHY THIS RACE MATTERS

• Virginians for Fair Elections supports the proposed constitutional amendment to give the General Assembly the authority to redraw Virginia’s Congressional maps
• The Virginia redistricting ballot measure is a temporary response to neutralize the Republican attempt to rig the upcoming 2026 elections in their favor - high turnout for this special election is needed to ensure this ballot measure passes. 

BACKGROUND

On April 21st, Virginians will have the opportunity to vote for a proposed constitutional amendment to give the General Assembly the authority to redraw Virginia’s Congressional maps. Virginians for Fair Elections is the “yes” campaign supporting the ballot measure’s passage.

This ballot measure is a direct response to neutralize the power grab and level the playing field for the 2026 midterm elections after Donald Trump demanded several states redraw their Congressional maps to create new, solidly-Republican districts.

If this ballot measure does not pass, it will be incredibly difficult to win the House majority next year and Donald Trump’s dangerous anti-democratic, pro-polluter agenda will remain unchecked. This gives us the best shot to neutralize their attempt to steal control of Congress and give us a fair fight next year. Two more years of an unchecked Donald Trump would have devastating effects on our ability to address the ever-worsening climate crisis.
