Candidate Background

Representative Seth Magaziner is running for a second term to represent Rhode Island's 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2014, Magaziner was elected as the Ocean State's General Treasurer. He has used the Office of the General Treasurer in innovative ways to lead on environmental issues, including creating clean energy programs that allowed the Town of West Warwick to become the first energy resilient municipality in the state. With the use of solar panels and wind turbines, the Town of West Warwick has not paid an energy bill on municipal buildings in five years. The energy efficiency programs created by Magaziner have resulted in thousands of jobs, helped small businesses save money, and pushed Rhode Island towards climate resilience. He was a founding member of Climate Jobs Rhode Island, a coalition of labor, environmental and elected leaders working to create good jobs to transition Rhode Island’s economy to net zero. Magaziner was also an early supporter of the Act on Climate, which passed into law this past April.  Under his leadership, Rhode Island’s public pension fund is on track to completely divest from fossil fuels within the next decade. He is running for Congress to continue bringing more clean energy jobs to Rhode Island, combatting climate change and protecting the Ocean State's natural beauty. He has earned a stellar 100% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Representative Magaziner is endorsed by LCV Action Fund.
