CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Saikat Chakrabarti is running to represent California’s 11th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He has formerly worked on Bernie Sanders' 2016 campaign where he met a group of leaders and together launched an effort to recruit a new generation of leaders to Congress called Justice Democrats. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was a member of the first class of recruits –  Saikat Chakrabarti ran her 2018 campaign and later served as her Chief of Staff. He now leads a policy think tank devoted to developing comprehensive plans for how the government can deliver prosperity and economic security for all Americans through an economic mobilization to build a clean economy for the U.S. and the world.

If elected to Congress, he is committed to making the U.S. a  global leader and exporter in clean tech, energy and manufacturing. He has advocated for expanding and electrifying public transit systems, creating energy efficient homes and buildings, and creating resilience to climate change so we can withstand increasing wildfires and extreme weather events in California.
