CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Rudy Salas is running to represent California’s 22nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Rudy has been serving the Central Valley area of California for years. He served in both the California State Assembly and Bakersfield City Council. He made history while serving in the City Council by becoming the first Latino Bakersfield City Council member in its 112 year history.

In his five terms in the California State Assembly, Rudy Salas stood by his commitment to take a stand for Central Valley families and deliver for the region. Salas has been a steadfast voice for the Valley, fighting for more public safety funding, expanding workforce development programs, expanding veterans’ and workers' rights, clean water infrastructure and support for our small business community. He helped secure funding to construct new clean water wells across the Central Valley and fought for the historic $7.5 billion water bond that invested entirely in water infrastructure. In Congress, he will continue to fight for clean water infrastructure and ensure all California communities have access to safe, and clean drinking water.
