Candidate Background

Former Speaker of the House,  Nancy Pelosi was first elected to represent California's 11th Congressional District in 1987. Nancy Pelosi has made history, time and again — as the first woman to serve as minority whip, the first woman to serve as minority leader and the head a major party in Congress, and the first woman to serve as speaker of the House. It is important to note the leading role Speaker Pelosi has played throughout her career to advance action to solve the climate crisis and protecting clean air, safe drinking water, and our public lands. As the leader of the pro-environment House majority, Pelosi has an impressive list of accomplishments in the 116th Congress that put our health and environment first, including: reinstating the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, championing the passage of the Climate Action Now Act (HR9), and passing legislation to fund critical environmental and public health programs, safeguard our drinking water, and protect our coasts and public lands from devastating fossil fuel extraction. Pelosi is a dedicated champion for our planet and has earned an impressive 94% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Pelosi is endorsed by LCV Action Fund and NRDC Action Fund.
