CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Mike McGuire is running to represent California’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He currently serves in the California State Senate. As Senate Leader, he passed the largest affordability package in decades, providing $60 billion in electric bill rebates for consumers, expanding the renters tax credit, deploying high-speed broadband to thousands of rural homes and businesses, expanding the first-time home buyers program, and making it easier to build more housing, which will expand opportunities for working families. He has also led the way making California more wildfire safe—doubling the number of CalFire firefighters, making sure we have a full-time firefighting force for a full-time fire season, deploying a record number of fire prevention projects across California, getting more state fire engines on the road, and putting more firefighting aircraft in the sky.
