CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Michael Bennet is running for Governor of Colorado. He currently represents Colorado in the U.S. Senate. As a Senator, he has fought for policies to address climate change and the Trump Administration’s efforts to roll back progress, including helping lead the calls for former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s resignation. He has introduced legislation to rescind Trump’s anti-climate executive orders; standardize how the government evaluates the costs of climate change; to promote clean energy, energy efficiency and carbon capture and storage; and to protect our public lands including the Arctic Refuge. Additionally, he helped secure $4 billion dollars to address the Colorado River Basin drought, and as Chair of the Subcommittee on Conservation, Forestry and Natural Resources he pushed to secure more than $20 billion for conservation measures and $5 billion for Colorado’s forests to reduce the risk of wildfires. Bennet has a 91% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
