CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Maxine Dexter is running for a second term to represent Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is a physician and was a Representative in the Oregon House of Representatives. While serving in the Legislature, she earned a lifetime score of 93% on the Oregon LCV Environmental Scorecard.

As a state representative, she consistently worked to fight for our communities and planet. She  worked to pass budgets that allowed the Department of Environmental Quality to implement the Climate Protection Program to require Oregon utilities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2050. She fought for the Healthy Heating and Cooling for All initiative and the Right to Refuse Dangerous Work, both of which prioritized low-income communities and outdoor workers to prevent heat wave deaths. She also championed the bipartisan Drought Resilience and Water Security package which secured over $100 million to mitigate the impact of drought on tribes, families, and local farms. In Congress, she will continue to fight to limit fossil fuel air pollution and hold big polluters accountable, champion a rapid transition to 100% clean energy, and advocate for healthy rivers and well-funded water infrastructure in Oregon.
