WHY THIS RACE MATTERS

  • Keeping this Governor seat under pro-environment leadership will help maintain Massachusetts’ role as a national climate leader at the state level

CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Maura Healey is running for reelection for Governor of Massachusetts. As Governor, she is committed to a clean energy transition and making Massachusetts a leader in fighting the climate crisis. Most recently as Governor, she led legislation that will accelerate clean energy development, improve energy affordability, create an equitable infrastructure siting process, allow for multistate clean energy procurements, promote non-gas heating, expand access to electric vehicles, and create jobs and support workers throughout the energy transition.

When she was the Attorney General of Massachusetts, she led groundbreaking efforts to combat the climate crisis by suing ExxonMobil in a first-of-its-kind lawsuit that alleged the company lied to consumers and investors about the risks of climate change. She launched several initiatives to support environmental justice communities, including taking on polluters across the state, instituting a program to combat idling vehicles, and installing air monitors in Springfield, which has one of the highest rates of asthma in the country.
