CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Kris Mayes is running for reelection as Attorney General of Arizona. She is a mom and Arizona native who grew up in Prescot, Arizona when the town had fewer than 20,000 residents. After graduating from ASU, Mayes began her career as a journalist focused on holding the powerful accountable. She served a senior role in Governor Janet Napolitano’s administration and later was elected to the Arizona Corporation Commission where she served as chair. There Mayes helped create thousands of good-paying jobs, saved consumers billions and authored Arizona’s first renewable energy standard.
Today she serves as Arizona’s 27th Attorney General, and is continuing to protect the people of her state. She’s standing up for our democracy, shutting down scams, prosecuting fraud, and going after criminals who put families at risk.
After winning the narrowest statewide race in Arizona history (280 votes), Kris Mayes has revamped the Attorney General’s office to fight for consumers and defend our constitutional rights. Arizona is one of the most competitive states in the country, electing Biden in 2020, Trump in 2024, while electing two Democratic U.S. Senators. Now Republicans will be targeting this office, and we expect this race in 2026 to be the most expensive and important Attorney General race in the country. The outcome will help to cement Arizona’s status as a swing state, and will provide another critical check against the Trump Administration’s infringement on our constitutional rights.
