CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Representative Julie Johnson is running to represent Texas’ 33rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. She currently serves Texas' 32nd Congressional District. She is a former Texas state legislator where she authored a bill that would help homeowners receive larger insurance settlements after natural disasters. She also worked on legislation to strengthen Texas’ energy grid in the aftermath of Winter Storm Uri. Johnson supports bold action to address climate change including smarter and equitable water use. In Congress, she wants to work on climate smart agriculture technologies and incentives for small farmers to implement greener farming practices. Johnson supports equitable IRA implementation while working to expand the provisions laid out in the law. In 2021, Johnson broke quorum in the State House to protest Republican bills that aimed to make it harder for Texans to vote. She also traveled to Washington, DC to urge Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. She has earned a 91% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
