CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Jon Ossoff is serving his first term representing Georgia in the U.S. Senate. Ossoff was born and raised in Northlake and received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and his Master’s degree from the London School of Economics. He worked on Capitol Hill for U.S. Representatives Hank Johnson (GA-04) and John Lewis (GA-05), focusing on national security issues. In 2013, he became the managing partner and CEO of Insight TWI, a small investigative production company targeting corrupt public officials and organized crime for international news organizations. His company produced an investigative piece on the connection between political corruption and illegal logging in Sierra Leone that is threatening to destroy the country’s endangered forests within a decade.
He is fighting to make Georgia a leader in clean energy. In 2021 Ossoff introduced the Clean Energy for All Homes Act, which would help middle-class and lower-income families afford solar roof and other renewable energy technology installations by reducing the cost burden of installing these systems, He also successfully negotiated inclusion of his transformative Solar Energy Manufacturing for America Act in a 2021 Congressional budget measure, which supercharged domestic solar manufacturing, creating tens of thousands of clean energy jobs in Georgia and nationwide Ossoff worked with Senator Raphael Warnock to deliver new resources to help protect children and families in Georgia from lead poisoning through the bipartisan infrastructure law. Senator Ossoff has earned an outstanding 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
