Candidate Background

Representative Jimmy Panetta is running for a fifth term to represent California’s 19th Congressional District. Panetta previously served as a prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney, and as an officer in the United States Navy Reserve. He is strongly committed to addressing climate change and supports quickly pivoting from fossil fuels to clean energy and protecting California’s coastline. Panetta’s father, former Representative Leon Panetta, authored the legislation that established the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and Jimmy Panetta currently serves as a member of the sanctuary’s Advisory Council. In Congress, Panetta will continue to promote clean energy and protect public spaces, including Monterey Bay and Pinnacles National Park. Representative Panetta has earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
