CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Hilda Solis is running to represent California’s 38th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. She currently serves in the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and formerly represented California’s 31st and 32nd Congressional Districts during her tenure in Congress. In 2000, she was the first woman and first Latina to receive the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award, which recognized for her groundbreaking work to pass the first environmental justice legislation in California.
During her tenure in Congress, she was most known for her work on labor and environmental issues. She championed clean energy jobs, sponsored the Southern California portion of the California Wild Heritage Act, and sponsored legislation that funded a National Park Service study.
