CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Darren Soto is running for a fifth term to represent Florida’s 9th Congressional District.  Soto previously served in the state House and Senate. A member of the House Natural Resources Committee, he is a strong voice for environmental protections and addressing climate change. In the state senate, he fought to pass a statewide ban on fracking and to protect Florida’s land, air and water. He is opposed to drilling off Florida’s coasts and has co-sponsored legislation to hold foreign polluters responsible for oil spills and to permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund. In Congress, Soto will continue fighting to ban fracking on all our public lands and reduce our reliance on dirty fossil fuels by investing in clean energy. Representative Soto has earned a 99% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Representative Soto is endorsed by LCV Action Fund.
