CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Chris Murphy is currently serving his second term to represent Connecticut in the U.S. Senate. Murphy previously served in the U.S. House. Murphy helped secure several changes that will help protect open space across the country and Connecticut. He fought to permanently fund and authorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), which is the main federal program used to preserve, develop, and ensure access to outdoor recreation activities. He has supported legislation to increase renewable energy resources and helped craft and pass the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. In the Senate, he will continue to advocate funding for the Highlands and be outspoken on the need for climate action through the bipartisan climate bill, the Super Pollutants Act. 

Murphy helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which will generate an estimated $630 million of investment in large-scale clean power generation and storage to Connecticut between now and 2030.Murphy has earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Murphy is endorsed by LCV Action Fund and NRDC Action Fund.
