CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Ayanna Pressley is running for her fourth term representing Massachusetts's 7th Congressional District. She won her first Boston City Council race in 2009 and subsequently placed first in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017 among the at-large members of the city council. She is the first woman of color elected to the council in the city’s history. While serving on the Boston City Council Pressley supported the implementation of Community Choice Electricity, an initiative that would allow the City of Boston to choose a renewable energy provider for its municipal power generation. She also made food policy a priority, working to ensure greater access to healthy and sustainable food. In Congress, she is a co-sponsor of the Green New Deal and passed an amendment reaffirming the interconnection between climate change and public health disparities plaguing communities across our country and throughout the globe to H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act. Representative Pressley has earned an outstanding lifetime score of 99% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
