CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is running for a fourth term to represent New York’s 14th Congressional District. After graduating from college, she worked as an organizer for Senator Bernie Sanders’s 2016 presidential campaign and was active in the Flint water crisis and the Standing Rock protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Tackling the climate crisis and investing in environmental justice have been  key parts of her platform. She introduced the Green New Deal alongside Senator Ed Markey to create a jobs and justice-centered plan to decarbonize the U.S. economy within ten years. She will continue to fight for 100% clean energy by 2035 and a “Green New Deal.” She has earned an impressive lifetime score of 98% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
