CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Adam Smith is running for his 14th term representing Washington's 9th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Before his election to Congress, Smith served for six years in the Washington State Senate. Smith has been a strong supporter of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan and other efforts to cut carbon pollution. He is committed to building a clean energy economy and has supported tax credits for clean energy, and introduced the High-Performance Buildings Act to improve the energy costs and health of people living in affordable housing units. Smith has also advocated for strengthening clean water protections and increasing safeguards on fracking. Representative Smith has earned a strong 92% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
