CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Ami Bera is running for a seventh term to represent California’s 6th congressional district. A win in this race will protect a critical House ally. Bera previously was a physician and Chief Medical Officer for Sacramento County. He understands the health risks posed by climate change and has consistently voted to address climate change. He has been at the forefront of efforts to address California’s drought, including making the link between the drought and climate change, and has spoken out against drought legislation that would undermine the Endangered Species Act and other environmental laws. In Congress, Bera will continue to work to preserve California’s treasured natural places and wildlife and advocate for the Land and Water Conservation Fund and Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund. Bera supports strategic policies and investments to promote the crucial transition from a carbon-based and energy dependent economy to one that is clean, self-sufficient, and can generate millions of good-paying jobs across every skill and education level. Representative Bera has earned a 95% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Representative Bera is endorsed by NRDC Action Fund.
