WHY THIS RACE MATTERS
- Holding this seat in Arizona currently held by Representative Rueben Gallego will help the environmental movement reclaim the majority in the House and make it easier to pass climate legislation at the federal level
- If elected, Terán will be the first Latina to represent Arizona in Congress
Candidate Background
Raquel Terán is running to represent Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to serving Arizona’s state legislature, she began her career as a community organizer, primarily focusing on immigrant communities. Terán is a coalition builder, a fighter for progressive policies, and a fighter against extremism-from organizer, to legislator to Party chair. Terán was instrumental in the success we saw in Arizona in the 2022 election cycle with statewide wins in the Gubernatorial race, Attorney General race, and Secretary of State race.
While serving as a state representative and state senator, she has introduced legislation to make it easier to vote, reform campaign finance laws, on climate resiliency planning, to ban fracking, increase environmental permitting requirements for overburdened communities, fund clean school buses and electric vehicles, protect clean water, increase energy efficiency standards and more. If elected to Congress, she will continue to champion environmental justice and democracy. Terán is endorsed by LCV Action Fund.
