CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Senator Mark Warner is running for his fourth term representing Virginia in the U.S. Senate. A former Governor, he has supported the expansion of clean energy technologies and introduced legislation that would have provided grants that would have rewarded states that produced the largest gains in energy efficiency. He has served as a board member of Alliance to Save Energy, which is promoting new ways to make our current energy usage more efficient, and has co-sponsored legislation to provide incentives to help homeowners make their houses more energy efficient.
Warner firmly believes that we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil while investing in new technologies that reduce harmful emissions that contribute to climate change. He favors an "all of the above," portfolio approach that employs solar, wind, bio-fuels, nuclear energy, next generation battery technologies, and investment in research that focuses on green technology so we can continue to use our domestic resources more responsibly. Additionally, with Senator Kaine, he also introduced the Chesapeake Bay Accountability and Recovery Act to bring increased accountability and more collaborative management to efforts to restore the Bay. Senator Warner has earned a solid lifetime score of 91% on the LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
