Candidate Background

Representative Madeleine Dean is running for a fourth term to represent Pennsylvania’s 4th congressional district. An attorney, Dean previously served as a township commissioner in Abington and was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Governor Tom Wolf also appointed her to the Pennsylvania Commission for Women. In the General Assembly, Dean has been a champion for environmental issues. She earned a perfect 100% score on Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania’s Scorecard. Dean sponsored legislation in 2017 to put a severance tax on natural gas extraction. She’s also voted in favor of implementing the Clean Power Plan, protecting parks from drilling, and regulations on oil and gas extraction. She is a founding member of the bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force and introduced H.R. 2600, the Toxic PFAS Control Act, which bans the manufacturing and processing of PFAS chemicals and requires the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate their disposal. In Congress, she will continue to support rejoining the Paris Climate Accord and advancing toward 100% clean energy. Representative Dean has earned an outstanding lifetime score of 98% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
