Candidate Background

Representative Julia Brownley is running for a seventh term to represent California’s 26th congressional district. A win will protect a critical House ally. Brownley previously served in the state Assembly where she earned numerous awards for her environmental leadership. A member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and the Safe Climate Caucus, she has consistently voted in support of climate action and co-sponsored legislation to help coastal cities adapt and respond to the impacts of climate disruption. She has worked to build California’s clean energy economy by supporting tax credits for clean energy and development of clean energy on public lands. She also took a leadership role in overseeing implementation of AB32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, the landmark legislation that propelled California forward as a national and global leader in taking concrete action to address the climate crisis. In Congress, Brownley will continue to be a voice for action on climate change and clean energy. Representative Brownley has earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
