CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

John Avlon is running to represent New York’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is a native New Yorker and the grandson of immigrants. John Avlon is an author, presidential historian, and former news anchor. 

If elected to Congress, he will advocate for investments in climate change mitigation and water quality protection to protect Long Island’s coastal communities that have been greatly impacted by more frequent storms that have caused surges, erosion and flooding. He also supports the need to invest in beach renourishment on a regular basis and investments in clean energy technology.
