CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Jay Jones is running for Attorney General to protect Virginia families — from crime and violence, corporate price gouging, and politicians with extreme agendas attacking our rights and Virginia workers.
As a member of the House of Delegates, he championed energy and environmental policies that lowered Virginians’ energy bills and protected our air, water, and land.
Jay previously served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, where he was a member of the Office of Consumer Protection. In this role he took on the gun lobby to keep families safe from violent crime, sued corporate special interests to prevent higher grocery prices, and went after big banks and slumlords preying on consumers.
An accomplished litigator, Jay led the fight on behalf of the Virginia NAACP against the Youngkin Administration to protect voting rights. He will continue to fight to protect the voting rights of Virginians and stand up to the Trump Administration’s continued attacks against democracy. Virginians’ civil and constitutional rights are under threat like never before.
If elected as Attorney General, he is committed to creating a Voter Protection Unit within the office to stop illegal attempts to infringe on voting rights, crack down on voter intimidation, the improper restriction of access to polling places, or illegal voter roll purges, and maintain a Voting Rights Hotline. He is also committed to creating a Civil Rights Division that is empowered to take aggressive action on behalf of Virginians’ basic rights. This unit will ensure that no Virginian is discriminated against, and that no entity – including the federal government – is able to take away their constitutional rights and liberties.
He will also work to target corporate polluters to clean up Virginia’s air, water, and soil, and fight back against corporate-funded attempts to roll back clean air and water laws by opposing lawsuits and court decisions that will hurt Virginians.
