CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Gerry Connolly is running for a ninth term to represent Virginia’s 11th congressional district. Connolly previously served as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors in Fairfax County. He has been an important environmental leader and advocate for addressing climate change as co-chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition. As a founder and co-chairman of the House Green Dogs, the largest environmental caucus in Congress, Connolly has consistently advocated for a clean energy future. He helped successfully pass the largest government investments in clean energy, and was a proud supporter of the Paris Climate Agreement and Clean Power Plan. Connolly has worked to protect Virginia’s environment by securing funding for the restoration of Chesapeake Bay and opposing offshore drilling. He has also worked hard to extend Metrorail and expand trails on public lands. In Congress, Connolly will continue to be a strong environmental advocate. Representative Connolly has earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Representative Connolly is endorsed by LCV Action Fund.
