CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Representative Eric Swalwell is running for a seventh term to represent California’s 15th district. Swalwell previously served in the Alameda County District Attorney’s office and on the Dublin City Council. He has been a strong voice for the environment by supporting funding for clean energy research and opposing the Keystone XL pipeline. As a former member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, he fought against attacks on climate science and the EPA.

As co-chair of the Critical Materials Caucus, Swalwell works to encourage innovation in the field of renewable energy and secure the materials necessary to transition to a renewable energy economy. In addition, addressing the climate crisis is imperative for our national security, the ecosystems that feed us, our public health and safety, and our future economic well-being. Swalwell introduced the Rare Earth Magnet Manufacturing Production Tax Credit Act, which would help produce rare earth magnets in the United States that are critical to the production of electric vehicles. He also introduced the Preventing Our Next Natural Disaster Act, a bipartisan bill to help communities better prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters including those driven by climate change. In Congress, Swalwell will continue to be a strong environmental voice and advocate for the restoration and conservation of the San Francisco Bay. Representative Swalwell has earned a 93% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
