CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Collin O’Mara is running for Governor of Delaware to make the First State a national model for climate action, job creation, education, and conservation. Under Collin’s leadership, Delaware will be the first state to achieve 100% clean energy (offshore wind and solar), first to net-zero emissions (focusing on the hard to decarbonize industrial, agricultural, and heavy-transportation sectors), and a national leader in advancing environmental justice, ensuring clean water, and recovering wildlife populations. He will achieve this by boldly implementing the historic Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to demonstrate how states can achieve our national climate goals. These efforts will create 40,000 family-sustaining jobs in deploying offshore wind, solar, and green hydrogen, investing in energy efficiency, remediating our water and soils, and bolstering resilience through natural resource restoration.

Collin currently serves CEO of the National Wildlife Federation*, America's largest grassroots conservation organization with 7 million members and supporters. He played a critical role in helping pass the Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure Jobs and Reinvestment Act, and the Great American Outdoors Act. He has secured hundreds of millions of dollars for Delaware to advance environmental justice, natural resource restoration, clean water, community resilience, and clean energy investments, including the recently announced award for the Mid-Atlantic green hydrogen hub that will create thousands of union jobs in Delaware.

Prior to NWF, Collin served as Delaware’s Secretary of Natural Resources and Environmental Control from 2009-2014 under Governor Jack Markell. His tenure was defined by nation-leading reductions in air pollution (Collin was chair of RGGI and OTC), enacting statewide recycling, bolstering climate resilience, building clean energy, and expanding public trails, parks, and wildlife refuges. He’s a graduate of Dartmouth College (Presidential Scholar), Oxford University (Marshall Scholar), and the Maxwell School (University Fellow). O'Mara is endorsed by NRDC Action Fund.
