Chuck Schumer

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is running for a sixth term representing New York in the U.S. Senate. He previously spent three terms in the New York State Assembly and nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He became Senate Democratic Leader in 2016 and was elevated to Senate Majority Leader in January 2021. As Senate Leader, Schumer is committed to ambitious action on climate change. He has made clear it is a top priority of Senate Democrats; among other things in the 116th Congress, he created a Special Committee on the Climate Crisis, led a resolution introduced by all 47 Democrats on the need for immediate climate action, called for a climate-smart infrastructure package, co-sponsored Senator Carper’s (D-DE) 100% Clean Economy Act with 33 other Democratic Senators to set a national goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, helped pass major public lands packages that permanently reauthorized and fully funded the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), and announced an ambitious plan to help meet science-based emissions reductions by transitioning all U.S. vehicles to zero emissions by 2040. Leader Schumer has earned a 93% lifetime score on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard.
