CANDIDATE BACKGROUND 

Peter Barca is running to represent Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Born and raised in Kenosha County, Peter Barca has dedicated his life to serving Southeast Wisconsin and standing up for families – he served in Congress and as the Wisconsin State Assembly Minority Leader.

He served in the legislature for nearly two decades, including seven years as the Assembly Minority Leader, where he spearheaded legislation to build a world-class workforce by investing in technical and training programs and fighting for equal pay protections.

While serving in the State Assembly, he earned a 100% score and had a 100% lifetime score on Wisconsin Conservation Voters’ 2015-2016 Conservation Scorecard. He also worked to pass a budget provision for a non-point source pollution project to clean up the Pike River and to protect Lake Michigan’s shoreline. In his Congressional campaign, he has focused on clean air and clean water, particularly protecting drinking water from PFAS forever chemicals.
