CANDIDATE BACKGROUND 

Elected to the bench in 2020, Judge Lisa Forbes has extensive experience in the courts of appeals and trial courts across Ohio at both the state and federal levels. Her expert approach to handling intricate cases has earned her the highest peer rating by lawyers.

With a 30-year career as a judge, business litigator and a partner of a national law firm, Judge Forbes has the experience and expertise Ohioans need at the Supreme Court. She has dedicated herself to learning about the intricacies of the law and understanding the impact the law has on various communities.  

Her leadership on various boards helps provide access to opportunities for some of Cuyahoga County's most vulnerable residents through providing high quality physical and mental healthcare, HeadStart, workforce development and residential services for adolescents who do not have parents to care for them.  Over the years, Judge Forbes' service to the community has also included work with the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network, and other organizations.  

Judge Forbes is the granddaughter of immigrants and a first-generation college graduate.  She graduated summa cum laude from Case Western Reserve School of Law – where she was the executive notes editor for the Case Western Reserve Law Review. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University.  She is the mother for three adult children and just celebrated her 33rd wedding anniversary.
