CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
Gloria Johnson is running to represent Tennessee in the U.S. Senate. As a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, Gloria Johnson led an effort to designate a segment of the Duck River as a scenic river which establishes stricter guidelines on what water resource projects can be done in the river. She also worked on establishing new EV manufacturing plants in the state. Johnson supports the transition to a clean energy economy that reduces the costs for families across the state and builds resilient infrastructure including green public transportation.
Johnson supports strong voter protections as well as the expansion of voting rights. She knows that passing strong environmental legislation is downstream of effective voter protection laws. Johnson is not afraid to speak out against injustice. In March of last year, Johnson joined her colleagues Justin Jones and Justin Pearson in protesting for stronger gun control after a mass shooting at a school in Nashville. Republicans in the state legislature filed motions to expel all three legislators from the chamber. Johnson was the only one who was not expelled.
