CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Gil Cisneros is running to represent California’s 31st Congressional District. He is a former one term U.S. Representative running for Rep. Grace Napolitano’s open seat.  Cisneros attended The George Washington University on an ROTC scholarship, and then served our country in the U.S. Navy for 11 years. Weeks after he was laid off from Frito-Lay in 2010, Cisneros won the Mega Millions jackpot. He and his wife established endowments for scholarships to be given to Latino students at George Washington and the University of Southern California. They founded Generation First Degree Pico Rivera, with the goal of ensuring every Latino household in Pico Rivera has at least one college graduate, and the Gilbert and Jacki Cisneros Foundation to provide mentorship in education. He most recently served the Biden administration as the military’s chief diversity and inclusion officer.

While in Congress, he was committed to promoting renewable energy, supporting clean water initiatives, and preserving California’s diverse ecosystems. He also supports building a thriving, equitable, and globally competitive clean energy economy that puts workers and communities first. He will continue to fight for investments in Congress to create millions of family-supporting union jobs that will build the infrastructure for our clean energy generation, energy efficiency, clean transportation, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable agriculture.
