U.S. House, California - 45
Representative Katie Porter is running for a third term to represent California’s 45th Congressional District. She is a nationally-recognized consumer protection attorney who taught at the University of California Irvine’s law school, and earned recognition from The New York Times and others for sounding the alarm about the housing bubble. In March 2012, she was appointed by California Attorney General Kamala Harris to be the state’s independent monitor of banks in a nationwide $25 billion mortgage settlement. Porter is used to standing up to powerful corporations, and in Congress, she will stand up to Big Polluters on behalf of the environment. She will take on big oil and corporate polluters to stop offshore drilling, and will fight to invest in clean energy. Representative Porter has earned a lifetime score of 94% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard
