During her tenure as Governor, she helped pass the Clean Power Act, the first piece of comprehensive legislation in the U.S. to reduce the emissions of four major pollutants from power plants. As Governor, she also helped Granite Staters and their businesses save $400 million from the energy efficiency programs her administration implemented. Shaheen was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2008 and has served on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and as Chair of the Subcommittee on Water and Power. She has introduced legislation to promote energy efficient technologies, and co-sponsored a bill to create a national renewable energy standard. Senator Shaheen’s dedication to environmental protection has earned her a 96% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard
